2015 July - Dover to Eastbourne

Image
Our very good friend Mark Ferguson joined us for the trip down from Dover to Eastbourne. Winds lighter than predicted but a very enjoyable sail with an old friend - perfect ! The locks at Eastbourne can get busy.

2015 July - Arriving in Lowestoft

We arrived in Lowestoft pretty much as planned and were buzzing after our first night passage on Amy Clair. We were all ready for a "full English," in a local cafe.

2015 July - meeting up with Penny & Chris and the Nordsee canal

Image
Penny & Chris flew from the UK to Amsterdam to meet us at Amsterdam Marina. We were happy to have them on board as old friends and  good support for the trip back across the North Sea

2015 July - Sailing through the heart of Amsterdam

Image
Sailing through the heart of Amsterdam is an experience not to be missed. The locks are busy and there is every kind of boating activity. But the Nordsee Canal is surprisingly wide and the marinas excellent. We made it to Amsterdam marina in the heart of the city. The marina is very new with fantastic facilities and cheap (by South Coast UK standards!) .

2015 - July - The North Sea : Ijmuiden to Lowestoft

Image
We came out through Ijmuiden at about 07.00 with the plan to reach Lowestoft at early morning the next day. Happily our "weather window" remained open for the crossing

2015 July - Starting the Journey Back to Blighty

After a very enjoyable week sailing on the "meers" in Northern Holland the time had come for us to bring Amy Clair home. We had gained good experience of handling our new toy and were confident that she was up to the trip. Crossing the North Sea was going to be our biggest sailing challenge so far and we were joined by our good friends Penny & Chris Manley. We had also been able to brush up on our techniques for going through Dutch locks.
