All too soon our stay in HK was coming to an end - a several months before Abbi would be home

Not much vegetarian on Cheung Chau - but we found a pizza !

Cheung Chau Island - a real slice of chinese island life

Image
The island is certainly not a quiet getaway from it all but a great place to see somewhere which is closer to a true Chinese town.

Across the water to Kowloon

Image
No trip to HK should miss a trip across the water to Kowloon. The skyline is dramatic and chaotic !

Streetmarkets and of course a very nice vegetarian restaurant form part of the tour

Hustle and Bustle but not too difficult to find a walk away from it all

Hello Hong Kong - and Abbi !

Image
A "short" 8 hour flight and we arrive in bustling Hong Kong. A dramatic city of extremes where we discovered that you can get away from the crowds and find some beautiful tranquil places.

Goodbye Sydney - we will be back !

The end of our two months in Oz , with the Fairbairns and to celbrate the engagement of Laura and Tim

Image
It's been another fabulous stay in Oz. We really love the place - shame it's such a long way ! With the news of Laura and Tim's engagement this was an opportunity to celebrate that and to thank our friends the Fairbairns for their hospitality and friendship.

In Sydney again - and seeing a film at the pop up cinema in the Botanic Gardens

Image
Fantastic evening really making use of the fabulous location of Sydney Harbour. The cinema is only there for the summer period . The photos hardly do it justice - breathtaking.

Australian Open in Melbourne

Image
A visit to Oz in January without going to the Australian Open Tennis was not going to happen ! It was very hot (39/40'C) but is a wonderful event , well organised in a great location - within walking distance of Melbourne town centre. We had tickets for the evening session of the Rod Laver Arena (equivalent to Wimbledon Centre Court) and we much appreciated the cool that the covered and air conditioned court offered.   Large screens in the centre of Melbourne Serena Williams outfit was - quite a show stopper But Djokavic had better dress sense...

The Great Ocean Road to Port Campbell -viewing "the twelve apostles"

Image
We have never visited this part of Australia before and it was very well worth the effort. We flew to Melbourne , then drove across to Port Campbell and back to Melbourne along the Great Ocean Road. It's a fearsome costline for any sailor. Facing directly onto the Southern Ocean it's a rugged coastline with high cliff faces and rocks onto which many vessels have crashed over the last few hundred years. It was particularly challenging back in the days of sail when clippers would come from the UK directly across the Indian Ocean and then try to thread the needle between Cape Otway and King Island along the bass Strait. After several thousand miles of ocean this was a huge navigational challenge - which many ships got wrong and ended up smashed on the rocky shores.  Some of the Twelve At dusk Liz in Ozzie Akubra hat Liz and Melissa

Kuring-Gai Nation Park and West Head - on Pitt Water

Image
Another scorching hot day but the Kuring Gai NP and West Head (north of Sydney) are well worth making the effort to see.
