Crossing Lyme bay is significant. It makes you feel that you have arrived in the West Country Proper ! A very uneventful crossing fortunately no headwinds but we needed to motor for most of the way.
Our second attempt at leaving the Solent begins now ! Our trip took us down to Yarmouth then on , across Poole bay down to Weymouth to meet up with old friends again. In Weymouth we were berther immediately behind a Royal navy Training Vessel who obviously are as punctilious as ourselves about flag etiquette at dusk and dawn !
We wanted to cross Lyme bay which is a 40 mile slog before the weather got too wintry . We also had to time the crossing to meet the tidal window around Portland Bill. In the end we left dartmouth pre dawn had a very quiet sail and were back in Weymouth early evening
