Our last day in Salcombe is a memorable one..

Our last day in Salcombe was a memorable one. Clear blue skies and warm weather was the perfect setting to go up to Salcombe Yacht Club, enjoy their excellent barbecue(and a pint of Doombar) and then settle down to watch the start of the Salcombe Yawls second race of the day. It's a very competitive fleet and cries of "starboard" and "water " rang across the estuary. 
The other side of the coin is that Salcombe is a hugely popular place(for good reason) and the dinghy park is a thing to behold !

We moored on a convenient buoy and took the dinghy up to the centre of Le Bono. It's a really pretty spot and well worth the visit. One of it's claims to fame is that it is the final resting place of the legendary French sailor Bernard Moitessier (who sailed in his boat Joshua in the original Golden Globe alongside Robin Know Johnston in 1969. For French people their sailing heroes are like rock stars - rather unlike the UK !

Not strictly sailing - but here we are in Hong Kong watching the boats go by..

Our first visit to HK en route to Sydney. We stayed on Lantau Island which is where the airport is located and is either a short drive or a ferry ride over the HK central. We stayed at the Auberge in Discovery bay.  The hotel didn't disappoint, a great room with a shower that had panoramic views over the  bay. Discovery Bay itself is a lovely place. Feels a bit like a Sunny/Asian version of Clapham with lots of young'ish European professionals and young families. Not the frantic HK that we expected. We stay in HK itself on the way back.
