Wonderful to have our daughter Abbi come to sail with us for a few days

Our youngest daughter , Abbi, has a demanding job in London so we are always delighted when she manages a few days sailing with us. We picked her up from Nantes airport (courtesy of easyjet ) and were soon able to take the lock out of the Vilaine. I do have to say that that the lock was crammed full yet again and what started out as a straightforward exercise  ended up being fraught when more and more boats were squeezing in (without much input from the lock keeper sadly) Still no harm done and we were soon on our way back to Houat for a beautiful couple of days enjoying fabulous weather and even swimming from the beach.

our final sailing day before we return to the UK at the end of the week - and it was a perfect day

We decided to leave Port Haliguen to allow ourselves time to sail the length of the Bay Of Quiberon and to be at the entrance of the Vilaine for the tide and to catch the 14.00 lock opening. The weather was kind and we had an excellent 4 hours close reaching with full sail across the bay at between 5.00 and 7.50 knots. We could not have asked for more perfect conditions. It was also a very pleasnt 26'C We arrived at the lock to enjoy the usual French scrum to get in but once again it all seemed to work out fine and we emerged to the tranquil waters of the Vilaine. We decided to motor a mile or two up river and to anchor in a particularly nice spot we'd identified on our way through before, and found ourselves in the Beneteau owners club - 1 on either side (but well-spaced!) Anchor down and first swim on the day . The river is as interesting colour, well, river water but the temperature is really ideal. Not too cold but still very refreshing. We have had 2 swims this ...

2016 August - ARC Channel Islands - delayed

After several weeks of preparations, attending meetings and getting the boats safety equipment up to standard we made our way to Haslar Marina (all of 1/2Nm away !) tomeet up with our fellow participants. The weather however had different ideas and the winds remained solidly at F6+. Still it was a good opportunity to have some social events with our new found friends ! The baking competition was won by Paul on "Milla of Falmouth" for a fantastic stuffed loaf.
